DALLAS — Mike Modano of the Dallas Stars is out indefinitely after the star centre underwent surgery to remove his appendix.

The 39-year-old Modano, who holds the NHL career scoring record for U.S.-born players, underwent the surgery on Monday.

Modano has appeared in 54 of the Stars’ 68 games this season, scoring 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Sabres defenceman Teppo Numminen is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery Sunday to repair a fractured bone in his face.

Numminen was struck in the face Saturday by a second-period shot from Carolina defenceman Tom Gleason. The shot appeared to be deflected. Numminen was able to skate off under his own power.
