Canucks put away Blue Jackets
VANCOUVER — Ryan Kesler scored the winner and Roberto Luongo made 19 saves as the Vancouver Canucks gave themselves some breathing room in the tight Western Conference playoff race with a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.

Sami Salo and Alex Burrows also scored for Vancouver (32-22-8), which improved to 10-2-0 in its past 12 games and moved four points ahead of Columbus for fifth place in the conference.

Blue Jackets place Modin on IR
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Blue Jackets placed left-winger Fredrik Modin on injured reserve with a lower-body injury Tuesday.

The move is retroactive to Saturday when Modin was injured in the Blue Jackets’ 5-1 win at Carolina. He was evaluated by team physicians when the club returned to Columbus and is expected to miss at least a week.

Modin also spent time on the injured list in October and November with a groin injury.

Blue Jackets Torres to have surgery
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Blue Jackets left-wing Raffi Torres was set to have arthroscopic knee surgery Friday. He will be sidelined two to four weeks.

The 27-year-old Torres, acquired from Edmonton in exchange for Gilbert Brule on July 1, has a goal and three assists in 14 games with Columbus.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Blue Jackets activated Raffi Torres off injured reserve, clearing the way for left wing to play his first game for Columbus on Saturday night against the Blackhawks.
