BOSTON — The National Hockey League’s investigation of four registered contracts was in full force before arbitrator Richard Bloch ruled in favour of the league’s decision to reject Ilya Kovalchuk’s 17-year deal with New Jersey.

The Boston Bruins released a statement Tuesday saying the league has been examining Marc Savard’s US$28-million, seven-year extension since it was signed on Dec. 1.

Bruins accept award, sign Wheeler Blake Wheeler.

BOSTON — The Boston Bruins signed forward Blake Wheeler to a one-year contract on Friday.

His agent Matt Keator said the deal is worth US$2.2 million, the amount of an arbitrator’s award given after a hearing on Tuesday.

“The decision came in the range we expected,” Keator said. “There were no winners or losers in this case.”

BOSTON — Boston Bruins centre Marc Savard is expected to miss three to four weeks because of a partial ligament tear in his right knee that won’t need surgery.

BOSTON — The Boston Bruins placed Marc Savard on long-term injured reserve with a broken left foot Wednesday and expect the star centre to miss 4-6 weeks.
