Sabres send Paille to Bruins for draft picks

The Sabres have traded underachieving left wing Daniel Paille to the Boston Bruins in exchange for two draft picks.

In making the deal Tuesday, the Bruins announced they gave up a third- and a conditional fourth-round selection in next year’s draft. Paille is a 2002 first-round draft pick who had difficulty finding a niche in the Sabres lineup.

Bruins Julien wins Jack Adams
LAS VEGAS — A great season for the Boston Bruins has helped earn Claude Julien the Jack Adams Award.

He was named the NHL’s coach of the year on Thursday after being selected over San Jose’s Todd McLellan and Andy Murray of St. Louis in voting by NHL broadcasters.

All three men were nominated for the first time.

BOSTON — The Boston Bruins say defenceman Andrew Ference has undergone successful surgery to repair an abdominal hernia and a torn groin.

Ference’s recovery time is estimated at four to six weeks following the surgery Wednesday at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The 30-year-old Ference played in 47 regular-season games for Boston, recording a goal and 15 assists.

His career NHL totals include 24 goals and 109 assists.

BOSTON — Bruins high scorers Phil Kessel and David Krejci face surgeries that could keep them from playing early next season.

The 21-year-old Kessel, who led Boston with 36 goals, will have surgery for a torn rotator cuff and labrum in his shoulder. The 23-year-old Krejci, second on the team with 73 points, will undergo hip surgery. General manager Peter Chiarelli said Monday their status for the start of the season is questionable.
