Canucks confident in race for Forsberg

The Vancouver Canucks feel they are strong contenders to sign Peter Forsberg if the 36-year old decides to return to the National Hockey League next week.

According to a Globe and Mail report, Canucks general manager Mike GIllis has close ties to Forsberg’s agent Don Baizley, which means the club is on the Swedish star’s short list.

The Vancouver Canucks may be getting an offensive boost on its road trip this week as Daniel Sedin is inching closer to returning from injury.

McIver re-signs with Canucks
McIver, 24, spent the 2008.09 season split between the Anaheim Ducks and Canucks. In 18 NHL games last season, all with Anaheim, McIver recorded one assist and 36 penalty minutes. In an additional 28 games with the Canucks American Hockey League affiliate, Manitoba Moose, McIver had two assists and 59 penalty minutes.

The 6???3???, 205-pound defenceman was originally drafted 254th overall by the Canucks in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Canucks re-sign winger Hansen
VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks have re-signed right-winger Jannik Hansen to a contract, the NHL team said Wednesday.

Hansen, 23, had six goals and 15 assists in 55 games with the Canucks last season. He had one goal in two games played with the AHL Manitoba Moose.

The six-foot-one, 201-pound native of Herlev, Denmark, was taken 287th overall by the Canucks in the 2004 draft.
