DETROIT — The “Spirit of Detroit” statue in downtown Detroit is decked out in an oversized Red Wings jersey.
A crew put the jersey on the 26-foot-tall bronze statue outside the Coleman A. Young Municipal Building ahead of tonight’s opening game of the Stanley Cup final.
The statue is a few blocks from Joe Louis Arena, where the defending champion Red Wings are playing the Pittsburgh Penguins.

TORONTO — Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Martin Gerber received an automatic three-game suspension from the NHL on Wednesday for abusing referee Mike Leggo.
