Stars put Ott on IR with rib cage injury

DALLAS — The Dallas Stars have placed centre Steve Ott on injured reserve with a rib cage muscle injury.

The move Friday came five days after Ott injured an oblique muscle against Vancouver. He has one assist and nine penalty minutes in four games this year.

Ott will miss his second game Friday night against Boston.

Wild lose Mikko Koivu to knee injury
ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota Wild centre Mikko Koivu will miss at least a week with a knee injury and could miss the rest of the regular season.

Koivu was hurt in Sunday’s victory over Edmonton.

Assistant general manager Tom Lynn says Koivu had an MRI and saw team doctors on Monday and will be out at least seven days. Lynn also said Koivu could miss all 10 games through Minnesota’s regular-season finale on April 11.

MONTREAL — Edmonton Oilers head coach Craig MacTavish is not overly concerned with the health of defenceman Sheldon Souray, who was injured late in the second period of Tuesday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

“He’ll be evaluated (Wednesday), but we don’t anticipate it will be too long,” MacTavish said. “He wanted to go out, but we didn’t think it was worth the risk.”

Wrist injury a blow to Caps Clark
Washington Capitals captain Chris Clark is likely gone for the rest of the regular season with a torn tendon sheath in his right wrist.

Clark is scheduled to have surgery on Thursday after missing four of the past seven games.

Clark suffered the injury in training camp and missed 14 games in November and December with what was described as an arm injury.
He has just one goal and five assists in 32 games this season.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby ruled himself out of Friday night’s game against Anaheim because of an apparent left knee injury.

Crosby was hurt late in the Penguins’ 6-3 loss to Washington on Wednesday.

He did not try to skate Thursday but said he hoped to play against the Ducks.

When he got onto the ice during Friday’s pre-game skate, he realized that wouldn’t be possible.

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oilers placed tough guy Zach Stortini on injured reserve Sunday and recalled Ryan Potulny from Springfield of the American Hockey League.

Stortini suffered a lower body injury on Friday after falling awkwardly at the end of a fight with San Jose’s Brad Staubitz. He has a goal and two assists in 28 games this season and tops the Oilers with 111 penalty minutes.
