Jackets activate Huselius, place Torres on IR

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated forward Kristian Huselius and placed forward Raffi Torres on the injured list.

General manager Scott Howson announced the moves on Friday.

Torres’ placement was retroactive to Wednesday, when he was injured in a 9-1 home loss to Detroit. He has eight goals and one assist in 17 games this season.

Jackets ink Brassard to 4-year deal
COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed centre Derick Brassard to a US$12.8-million, four-year contract extension.

The 22-year-old native of Gatineau, Que., scored 10 goals and added 15 assists in 31 games last season before a dislocated shoulder in December benched him for the remainder of the year.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Rick Nash and the Blue Jackets have reached agreement on an eight-year contract extension that will keep the star winger with the team through the 2017-18 season.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Police say a local hockey fan made physical threats against the Columbus Blue Jackets in a series of phone calls to the team’s arena during a game against the Calgary Flames on Thursday night.

Peter Stenzel, 52, was arrested Thursday and charged with inducing panic for threatening physical harm against the team during the Jackets’ 5-0 win over the Calgary Flames, Columbus Police Sgt. Rick Weiner said.

VANCOUVER — Ryan Kesler scored the winner and Roberto Luongo made 19 saves as the Vancouver Canucks gave themselves some breathing room in the tight Western Conference playoff race with a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Blue Jackets claimed centre Chris Gratton off waivers from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.

Blue Jackets place Modin on IR
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Blue Jackets placed left-winger Fredrik Modin on injured reserve with a lower-body injury Tuesday.

The move is retroactive to Saturday when Modin was injured in the Blue Jackets’ 5-1 win at Carolina. He was evaluated by team physicians when the club returned to Columbus and is expected to miss at least a week.

Modin also spent time on the injured list in October and November with a groin injury.
