OV-H8: Talbot calls Ovechkin a ‘douche’

BY WEB STAFFsportsnet.ca

Max Talbot has added more fuel to the fire that is the growing rivalry between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals.

In an interview to promote next season’s Winter Classic between the two teams, the Penguins forward said Ovechkin was a “real douche” and he didn’t like the Capitals star.

“I just hate the guy,” Talbot told Pittsburgh Radio Station 105.9 The X. “I can’t lie. Sorry. Continue reading ‘OV-H8: Talbot calls Ovechkin a ‘douche’’

Brophy: What has Ovechkin learned?

What has Ovechkin learned?

Did Alexander Ovechkin hand the Hart Trophy to Sidney Crosby, Henrik Sedin or Ryan Miller with his two-game suspension this week?

Perhaps it wouldn?t affect most people?s opinion of him with just one incident ? applying a dangerous season-ending shove to Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Brian Campbell ? but his hazardous play this year might be enough to turn some voters off when it comes time to choose the NHL?s major award Continue reading ‘Brophy: What has Ovechkin learned?’

Spector on NHL: Ovechkin needed a lesson

Ovechkin needed a lesson

Alex Ovechkin is becoming a dangerous player and it was time for the NHL to step in.

It was a cool coincidence that Alex Ovechkin and Colin Campbell should meet like this, at this strange time in their careers, when both seem to be transitioning from the guy they used to be to a new and not-so-improved version of themselves.

The disciplinarian was losing his teeth, just as the player is finding a new, dangerous set of his own. Continue reading ‘Spector on NHL: Ovechkin needed a lesson’

Ovechkin feeling better, but sits vs. Devils

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

As expected, Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin is out of the lineup because of an upper-body strain.

Ovechkin has been termed “week to week” by the Capitals, but the two-time NHL MVP was not ruled out beyond Wednesday night’s game against the New Jersey Devils.

Ovechkin travelled with the team and could potentially play at Florida on Friday or at home in a rematch with the Panthers on Saturday.

Ovechkin not sorry for celebration

Ovechkin not sorry for celebration
TORONTO — Washington Capitals sniper Alex Ovechkin is making no apologies for the celebration that followed his 50th goal last week.

The Russian star followed through with a plan to put his stick on the ice and pretend to warm his hands over it. It sparked a debate on how far celebrations should go in the sport.

“If you win the lottery — a million dollars — you go to the bar and drink a lot,” Ovechkin said Tuesday before Continue reading ‘Ovechkin not sorry for celebration’

Rattled Ovechkin granted off-day

Rattled Ovechkin granted off-day
ARLINGTON, Va. — Alex Ovechkin was given Wednesday off, an excused absence from practice that Washington Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau said had nothing to do with the “stinger” the league’s reigning MVP got from a shoulder-first crash into the boards.

“He’s fine,” Boudreau said. “I wanted to give him today off to rest. He’s probably a little stiff, I would think, but I mean, he’s fine. And I asked him how his shoulder was. He says Continue reading ‘Rattled Ovechkin granted off-day’
