Sharks rally, then rout Rangers 7-3

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK — It sure seemed as though the New York Rangers were on their way to an eighth straight win.

Playing at home with an early two-goal lead against a West Coast team on a long road trip, the signs certainly suggested it was going to be another good night for the NHL’s hottest team.

By the time the first period was finished, the San Jose Sharks had taken over.

Devin Setoguchi scored Continue reading ‘Sharks rally, then rout Rangers 7-3′

Rangers D Mara injures shoulder
NEW YORK — Rangers defenceman Paul Mara injured his right shoulder Sunday during a third-period fight with Philadelphia’s Arron Asham and stayed home from New York’s trip to St. Louis after the game.

Mara had a brief examination of his shoulder at Madison Square Garden, but swelling prevented a closer look. He was immediately ruled out of Monday’s road game against the Blues and left the arena with his right arm in a sling.

Clemmensen blanks reeling Rangers

Clemmensen blanks reeling Rangers
NEWARK, N.J. — Nothing about the New York Rangers worries the New Jersey Devils this season.

Maybe that’s why the Rangers seem to be considering bringing Devils nemesis Sean Avery back to Broadway. After a year in which the Rangers dominated the Devils in the regular season and playoffs, the tide has turned.

Scott Clemmensen made 27 saves in posting his first NHL shutout in nearly five years, and Zach Parise scored twice to Continue reading ‘Clemmensen blanks reeling Rangers’

Rangers retire Adam Graves’ No. 9

Rangers retire Adam Graves No. 9
NEW YORK — Adam Graves’ greatness isn’t measured in numbers — although it could be.

It isn’t about his grit on the ice or his unfailing dedication to his team, and more importantly his teammates — although it could be.

If he were asked to describe what he does best, Graves’ answer would be about how he is a people person and how he strives to make the community better. Not because he was a great hockey player, but because Continue reading ‘Rangers retire Adam Graves’ No. 9′

Lundqvist, Rangers shut down Pens

Lundqvist, Rangers shut down Pens
NEW YORK — The number on Henrik Lundqvist’s stat line that jumped out to the New York Rangers goalie wasn’t the 19 in the win column but the zero under shutouts.

Never did the numbers 20 and 1 go as well together as they did Monday night.

Lundqvist bounced back from a slump and a bout with a stomach bug, sending the Rangers to a 4-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins that stopped a slide and lifted New York back Continue reading ‘Lundqvist, Rangers shut down Pens’
