Matt Carkner’s storybook season with the Senators just keeps getting better.

The rugged defenseman, who grew up just outside of Ottawa, signed a two-year contract extension with the NHL club on Tuesday afternoon.

Schremp, the Oilers second choice, 25th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, spent the majority of last season with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League. Appearing in 69 games for the Oilers??? top affiliate, he scored seven goals and 35 assists for 42 points.

BOSTON — The Boston Bruins signed head coach Claude Julien to a contract extension Friday.

Julien won the Jack Adams award last season as the NHL’s best coach for guiding the Bruins to the top of the Eastern Conference. Boston finished 53-19-10 for 116 points.

The Ottawa Senators announced Thursday they have signed free-agent goaltender Andy Chiodo to a one-year, two-way contract.

Chiodo, 26, spent last season with Dynamo Minsk of the Kontinental Hockey League, where he posted a 6-11-3 record with a 3.66 goals-against average in 26 games.

DETROIT — Forward Jason Williams is returning to Detroit.

The Red Wings announced Thursday that Williams has signed a one-year contract worth US$1.5 million.

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks have re-signed right-winger Jannik Hansen to a contract, the NHL team said Wednesday.

Hansen, 23, had six goals and 15 assists in 55 games with the Canucks last season. He had one goal in two games played with the AHL Manitoba Moose.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenceman Jay McKee to a one-year contract.
