PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Chris Pronger is recovering from minor surgery on his right knee last week.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said Tuesday the 35-year-old Pronger will be ready for the start of training camp in September.

Surgery for Staal, Blysma positive on return

Pittsburgh received good news of sorts regarding Jordan Staal, who underwent surgery Friday night to repair a severed tendon that runs across the top of his foot to his toe.

Penguins coach Dan Blysma confirmed Saturday that the Staal injury was not to Achilles’ tendon, but rather a tendon that runs across his big toe. It means the Penguins centre is now listed as day-to-day and could return to the playoffs.

OTTAWA — Veteran Ottawa Senators defenceman Chris Phillips will undergo minor foot surgery to remove bone spurs, a source told The Canadian Press.

Phillips played all 82 regular-season games this year for Ottawa. He recorded eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points.

The Calgary native did not collect any points in Ottawa’s first-round series against Pittsburgh. The Penguins won the series in six games.

Flyers Carter to undergo foot surgery

The Philadelphia Flyers announced Thursday that center Jeff Carter will undergo surgery on his left foot on Friday and is still expected to be out three to four weeks, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

“He will have a screw inserted to aide the healing process,” said Holmgren.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Steve Raikin at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Blues defenceman Eric Brewer has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in what the team termed a minor setback for a player rehabbing from two back operations.
