TORONTO — Philadelphia Flyers’ forward Daniel Carcillo has been suspended for one game and Flyers’ coach John Stevens has been fined $10,000, the NHL announced Thursday.

Carcillo’s suspension stems from an incident late Wednesday in Game 1 of the Flyers’ Eastern Conference quarter-final series against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Eager suspended for Reddox hit
The NHL suspended Chicago Blackhawks forward Ben Eager for three games Saturday.

Eager was penalized for delivering a blow to the head of Edmonton’s Liam Reddox in the third period of the Oilers’ 5-4 victory Friday night. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Eager was fined US$21,951.21 and won’t be eligible to play until March 29 against Vancouver.

TORONTO — Colorado Avalanche forward Cody McCormick was suspended for two games by the National Hockey League on Friday for a high-sticking incident during a game against Minnesota.

McCormick was assessed a double minor for high-sticking Wild forward Cal Clutterbuck midway through the second period of the Avs’ 2-1 shootout victory on Thursday.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Steve Downie is in trouble again.

The right-winger with the American Hockey League’s Norfolk Admirals has been suspended 20 games for slashing an official with his stick, the league said Thursday.

The incident occurred late in the third period of a Feb. 28 game against the Hershey Bears. Downie, 21, was assessed a game misconduct and suspended indefinitely by the league.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Gauthier will forfeit $22,580.64. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Gauthier was assessed a minor for boarding after making contact with Sharks’ forward Patrick Marleau on an icing play at 10:14 of the third period. There was no injury as a result of the play.

NEW YORK — New Jersey defenceman Mike Mottau received a two-game suspension from the NHL on Saturday for elbowing New York Islanders forward Frans Nielsen.

The Devils announced the suspension the day after the game with the Islanders, and the NHL confirmed it later Saturday.
